Ten boats were on-course with tricky conditions to kick off with due to a highly variable wind direction and ranged in strength from 0-4 knts. Eventually the wind settled to a 5-10knt southerly and the course changes kept the racing with good windward/return legs.
It was planned to sail a handicap and scratch races however problems with the starting box meant a change of plan with all races starting with all boats at the start line together. This always leads to a few infringements and it was encouraging to see penalty turns being taken without any fuss. This also occurred out on the course.
Welcome to Murray D who did very well in his first outing bagging a 4th place as his best result. Pretty impressive for his first DF65 series. It was also good to see Kriss back with his coloured sail and doing well by bagging a 6th early on in the very light conditions with an A rig.
Nigel was visiting from Perth and kicked of the series with a 2nd and 3rd and would have finished higher in the rankings if he hadn’t needed to leave early. You and any visitors are welcome to join us when in town.
Geoff O took out the day but shared first places with Peter T, Grant and Brian H. These sailors also took out the podium places and were all very close in the accumulated scores. Tight racing.
The middle of the fleet were very hard to separate and went to a countback to separate the placings. The separation is calculated by accounting for their best results.
Regardless where boats were in the fleet, there was consistently close and engaged racing.
PRO gets average points, but only for one race when the fleet is larger enough for everyone to have a go at the critical role.
If the PRO place counts as a DROP then the cell remains in BLUE (see Peter B results).
Very good sailing gents and its great to have people take on shared responsibility for different aspects of the organising. It takes a team.
